Things I love about The Boyfriend
He has cool toys. And big toys. No, I am not being euphemistic here. He owns a lot of cool toys. Now, before anyone gets all "oooh rich boyfriend" on me let me say that the man works very hard and very long. Even though he owns the company he still does a lot of the real manual labor. He has pretty simple needs and doesn't spend money on very many things, unless it has a motor, a part of a motor, or looks like it would benefit from the addition of a motor.
Because he has cool toys we sometimes get to fly places to have fun. You just have not lived until you have flown over the mountains of New Mexico in the summer. Can we say thermals? Turbulence anyone? Tears and puke really add to the atmosphere of a date, don't ya think?
This past weekend we played with another of his toys. Another mode of transportation. The Honda Goldwing. A nice comfortable motorcycle. He keeps it down here in the winter and in Colorado in the summer ....thus the need to fly over the mountains of New Mexico to visit it.
It is fun to be on the bike when it is warm out, and it was warm on Saturday. Since the Hippiekid was happily attending the birthday party of his best friend and then spending the night, we took off on the Goldwing.
We only went about 50 miles to a town I have been to many times (just enough to spend the night and feel like we have gotten away), over roads I have driven or been a passenger over many, many more times. It was the first time I have been on those roads while on a motorcycle. It was a whole new world. Who knew I had missed so much? I mean, in Colorado I expect to see new things since I am going over new roads, but these are roads I travel numerous times a year. The thing about being on a motorcycle is that you are just so much more THERE. You are a part of the outdoors, not just barreling through it. I could smell things I never have before. I saw things that have been there along those roads that have gone unnoticed by me. Houses tucked off to the side, an interesting gate, a pond with an unusual shaped tree. Okay, I am realizing here that it is kind of difficult to wax poetic about a motorcycle ride, without starting to sound really dorky. But, please believe me, it was cool.
I am lucky that The Boyfriend shares his toys (and his life) with me. Well, I am stilll working on getting him to let me drive the restored 1963 pickup, but generally he shares.
Besides the toys there are other things I love about him too. He takes great care of my truck, and he even replaced it when he thought it had too many miles on it for my safety (see, he got to look online for months at things with big motors!). And I hardly ever have to pump or pay for my own gas - because he has some system wherein he can figure out the gas mileage. He replaced my vaccuum too -- after he messed it up taking it apart to use it to blow up the inflatable swimming pool at my house. And guess what? I got a better vaccuum with more attachments and a bigger MOTOR than the previous one (he just can't help himself).
I love that he loves my son, takes an interest in him and spends time with him .
They certainly do share an interest in things with motors.
He is affectionate (even if he doesn't talk much), he takes us places,
he's a good guy and he's handy to have around.
But this weekend he cemented my love. Now I have yet another reason to love The Boyfriend. He is willing to get up out of a motel room bed on a Sunday morning and get on the motorcycle in the drizzle to go to WalMart to buy me tampons. Ya gotta love a man like that!

Whatta great guy! My hubby is also really into motorcycles and he'd be beside himself with pride if he had a photo of his sons on a motorbike like your son was. Great photos!

OK, the planes and motorcycles would scare the bejeezus out of me, but once I read the line "I love that he loves my son, takes an interest in him and spends time with him" I was sold. Congrats on finding one of the few good ones.

Hang onto that guy! He's a keeper, absolutely for sure.
I have experienced flying over mountains of New Mexico in summer. I know exactly what you mean. :-)
Happy LT.
